(The People) - what the Navajos call themselves
The Navajo
are a proud group of people who are known worldwide for their creative arts in
weaving, jewelry and pottery. The
Navajo Reservation extends over 27,000 square miles in New Mexico, Arizona and
Utah and includes some of the most majestic natural sites in the southwest
United States: Canyon de Chelly, Chaco Canyon, and Monument Valley.
However,
much of the land in Navajo territory is harsh and the living conditions are
severe.

some statistics from the US 1990 Census concerning those people living on the
Navajo Reservation:
